Chief Jason Armstrong currently serves as the Chief of Police for the Town of Apex, North Carolina. Prior to coming to Apex he served as the Chief of Police for the Ferguson, Missouri, and the Interim Chief of Police in Forest Park, Georgia. Chief Armstrong established his commitment to bridge building early in his career and his work in the community has been transformative in strengthening relationships and community partnerships.
Chief Armstrong is recognized as one of the nation’s top law enforcement leaders in the areas of community outreach & engagement and police reform. He is most known for his work in Ferguson, Missouri, working to build community trust while leading the department through reform efforts to ensure constitutional policing. With his vast accomplishments and experiences, Chief Armstrong is a sought-after contributor for local and national media outlets as well as professional contributions with guest lectures, keynote speaking, training and consulting in the areas of leadership, media relations, police reform and community engagement.
Chief Armstrong is a member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, The International Association of Chiefs of Police, and Fight Crime: Invest in Kids. Chief Armstrong currently serves on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police, the Board of Directors for Special Olympics North Carolina, the Executive Board for the North Carolina Police Executives Association, the Chief’s Advisory Committee for the North Carolina League of Municipalities and he previously served on the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s community policing committee. Chief Armstrong’s professional accolades include the 40 Under 40 Award from both, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and North Carolina Central University. He is also the recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus in Public Service Award from Columbus State University. Chief Armstrong holds a Master’s Degree in Public Safety Administration, a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and is a graduate of the inaugural Obama Foundation’s USA Leaders program.
